The Biggest Lie
It was always an honor and a pleasure when Tony would invite me to sing on one of his solo records or a No Use for a Name album. It was easy and fun to work with him and the lads, and I will always be especially grateful for the time they gave me the the lead singing role for the Sinead O'Connor song, "This is a Rebel Song."
Back in the day, we did a lot of touring together, Dance Hall Crashers and NUFAN, and it was a good fit because everyone got along really
On the Outside
We were on a Fat Wreck package tour in 2000, it was NUFAN, Tilt, Snuff, Mad Caddies & Consumed. We went across Europe together taking in France, Spain, Portugal & Italy. It was in Italy where we were playing a venue next door to a five-a-side football (soccer) pitch. Having had numerous chats on the virtues of footy with Tony on this tour he was keen to ask the venue if we could have a kick around on said pitch.
Long story short, it ended up with a challenge
Back in the days when Leche Con Carne and Making Friends came out, No Use For A Name were a huge inspiration for the Donots. "Invincible" was always our favorite track of that era. It pretty much summed up everything we liked about NUFAN and Tony's songwriting: That up-tempo energy of the rhythm section, the drive and great solo bits of the bass and guitars and some of the catchiest melodies of that time. During the recording process it was important for us to step away from the tragedy and embrace the celebration of Tony's music.
